On 4 November 2026, the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) announced the signing of two agreements with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters, sustainability and corporate governance. The FRA states that the agreements form part of its work to develop regulatory frameworks and promote governance and sustainability principles across non-banking financial institutions.
Under the first agreement, the IFC will provide advisory and technical services to strengthen the FRA's sustainability and ESG framework. The work covers the design of an ESG scorecard to assess the sustainability performance of companies, core indicators and technical standards, a review of the FRA's new sustainability reporting framework with technical feedback, and a preliminary framework for the roles and responsibilities of Sustainability Officers within institutions, in line with international best practice.
The IFC will also run specialised workshops for FRA staff on the International Sustainability Disclosure Standards IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 (climate-related disclosures), to build capacity in overseeing disclosure requirements and evaluating corporate sustainability practices.
Under the second agreement, the Egyptian Institute of Directors (EIoD), the FRA's training arm, receives a three-year licence to use and adapt four IFC corporate governance materials in its certified training programmes: Sustainability Training for Board Members, the Board Member Certification Program, the Board Secretaries Manual and the Internal Control Environment Manual. The materials cover governance frameworks, the role of board secretaries, internal control, risk management, internal audit and compliance.
